The bank I dealed with for the NC fucked me up. They accepted a few cars for the exchange and the CR-Z was refused. I was given 3 Ford Escape Ecoboost 2014, some CX-7s, Tributes, 2 Mazdaspeed 3s and a few koreans. I was like, no way I'm gonna go home with them, I absolutely hate them. Then I saw the Civic Hybrid 2012 in this exact color fully equiped except for a sunroof and I asked, give me a deal with it. Took a test drive and it wasn't bad at all. And...I've switch the keys and left with it.
Now why this car and not keeping my NC? Resale value, Maintenance, Gas, Comfort. Right now I don't have to wrench on it, the car has NOTHING to do at all on it. Gas wise? I'm laughing HARD! 10$ gave me 185 km! 10$ in my Miata would just fill 1/10 of the tank...and not even 50km maybe less. In the end, I won't lose as much as my NC Miata and it's MUCH MORE COMFY!
So I did the rational choice there. I'll save on gas so much that I'll have more money in my pocket in the end. Same for parts and maintenance. I'll just go cheap as fuck. I'm still sad for giving my NC away so easy but it's for the better. I still have my NA so I'm not out of the game yet and with the money I'll save up, I'll be able to fix it!

not even mad. If you still have a fun car, there is nothing wrong with having a practical commuter car. It makes sense.

I almost went down the rational road once, but then I saw they were selling Abarths for the same price as stripped down Civics, so I went with the Abarth. However, even with getting the Abarth at a huge discount, the resale value still shit all over me. Good thing I got 0% APR.

I don't think that's shameful. I was actually unaware they offered that new of a Civic Hybrid. (I knew they had one back in 2003 or so, but hadn't heard much since then).

Meh.... I'll never set up for something "comfy"... And really maintenance? granted I don't know your specific NC, but NCs are not known for costing a lot in term of maintenance... Nor do they cost a lot in gas if you know better than to keep on the throttle all the time like a 17 year old who just got his license :)
... gas... meh, considering that your "thing" now does something like 5L/100km on average and your miata was maybe averaging 8L per 100km if you occasionnaly abused it, I, personnally, would gladly give up 5$ per 100km for a bit of shine in my life...
Your Oppo Card is not yet revoked though as you still have a proper car in your garage... Be careful though, you are very close from having it taken away :)
(Don't mean to sound harsh in anyway here, but damn, man...a hybrid Civic?? really?? is it at least a manual??? I would choose the bus over this though.... That's how much I "love" those... lol)

That gen wasn't a good Civic Hybrid. The older model did 3.9L/100km when this one did 4.4L/100km. That's why it flew under the radar.

I drove a Golf TDI for 3 years with a similar thought...and it was a good car and made all kinds of financial sense.
And then at the end of 3 years I was super bored and bought a 911...gasoline be damned.

Hey, if you like better fuel economy and easier maintenance, I say go for what you like. I'd like to eke better MPG out of my Focus, myself.
That said, I think the 2013 refresh really improved the Civic Hybrid's looks.

That Civic is the anti-me actually. I didn't want a 5 seaters because people wants lifts from you. And it's CVT.... But trust me on this man. It's for the better. I'll get back on track later on with the NA at least!

CVT.... oh my... :)
I'll go with a Cappuccino or an AZ-1 here as I have lots of city driving to do here... I'll get about 5 to 6L/100km and barely any maintenance... But I'll still have fun and just one car :)
I guess you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes though... I fought with my wife for her to accept that the next car I'll buy to replace the Corvette will be even less practical, but I did not give up and I won... As long as I can, I'll do everything to keep something fun... Then when it will have to change, I'll buy a E39 M5 hahaha

I wound up doing the same thing a year ago. Dropped off my NB for a Kia Soul.
Over the past year or so of driving, I've found myself agreeing with the "James May" opinion of many cars; a car can be good because it's simple, honest, inexpensive, and fulfills it's purpose. A car doesn't have to be fast, handle like it's on rails, or wail like a banshee to be a good car. Sometimes a good car just does it's job without complaint.
Kudos on the Civic. Enjoy those HOV lanes and preferential parking.

Ah, that'd do it. If they built a decent plug-in hybrid, I'd be all over it. I drive a regular (non-hybrid) 2001 Civic. Looks like I've been averaging around 6.5L/100 km. http://www.fuelly.com/car/honda/civi…

Yeah, I'm certainly not complaining about it. I wouldn't mind replacing my wife's car with something a bit more fuel efficient though. She's got a 2000 Cavalier (2-door), and with a baby on the way, it'll be really difficult to get the baby in/out of the car.
Ideally I'd like to get a plug-in hybrid, as that'd probably cut our fuel bill in half. It isn't so much the monetary savings I'm after, but it's more of a moral thing. I've worked in the oil and gas industry, and I can see that we need to be doing something different. We can't keep burning fossil fuels the same way we have been for the last 100 years. If we don't do something now, we'll get seriously stuck.
I've been eyeing up the prices of used Chevy Volts, but then GM goes and does something stupid like trying to block Tesla sales in Michigan, which makes me not want to buy a GM product. Maybe in 5 years or so I'll be able to pick up a Tesla Model 3 instead, and keep the Civic for longer range driving (my parents live 500 km away).

Well, to be fair, she bought it before we'd even met. It's been quite reliable - perhaps even more so than my Civic. For the amount of abuse they take, Cavaliers are really not that bad. Sure, the interior doesn't match that of the Civic, but a nice interior is a lot less important when all you want to do is start your car on a particularly cold day.

I read through your post like three times and don't understand what happened. I mean, I understand you ended up with a '12 Civic Hybrid instead of a NC Miata, but I've got no fucking idea how you ended up there.

There's a reason people say GM cars run badly longer than most run at all :)
I certainly see more old Cavaliers and Sunfires still on the road than makes sense to me.

You can never lose your Jalop card for being practical IMHO.
If the Civic is the smart choice, I'm all for it. You can still be a Jalop and appreciate automobiles, even if you don't drive an exciting car. Day to day transportation needs trump a fun car to me.
Then again, I drove a Nissan cube and enjoyed it for what it was. So you might want to take my opinion with a grain of salt.

So far, the brakes are weird. Otherwise it drive like a normal Civic with a normal acceleration and cheap hard plastic EVERYWHERE. But feels like quality plastic at the same time.

Me neither...
Basicly, the only place that could fix the problem only had this interesting car in the lot and before I knew it, I had the Civic keys in my hands. I didn't even had a chance at giving my NC a proper goodbye.

See that still doesn't help. Why did you have to trade these people your Miata for their Civic? Did you lose a street race to them?

I had enough with the noise and the poor gas mileage. I still had a lot to fix to make it perfect so right now, my head is clear of repairs and expensive shit to put in it. I still have my NA Miata if it helps, so nothing is lost really lol.
